Getting Your G.E.D in K.C – Missouri

G.E.D

Here’s how you can test for your G.E.D in the Kansas City, Missouri area.   

First step, get authorization

 
Before you can sign up for the test, you need to send an application to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (MDESE). You can download and print an application here or you can pick up one at your local G.E.D testing centers. Here are the G.E.D testing centers for the Kansas City area. This is where you take the test, too.

Once you receive your letter of authorization, the next step is to contact your local Adult Literacy and Education Center (AEL). You are required to pick up and complete a demographic form. They provide instructional videos, preparation classes, and practice tests, which are free of charge. These services are not required but recommended. Take a free online practice test here.

Final step, take the test!

Finally, you need to sign up for the test itself. You need to set an appointment with one of the testing centers, listed earlier. Some testing sites require you register in person; some can do it over the phone. Call to find out. You will need the following:
  • Driver’s license or state I.D.
  • $20 registration fee (this is a different fee than the processing fee to get authorization)
  • Demographic form from the AEL Center.

The G.E.D test is 4000 points. You need at least 2,250 points to pass. Good luck!
